Great Snacks - Healthy, Nutritious, and Fun!

Great snacks can mean two different things. Good to eat and good for you. Well, why not both at the same time? Snacking is a common activity for people, particularly in the United States. And it's gotten out of hand.

Snacking is big business in the food industry. Good for the industry, but not so wonderful for kids growing up.

Yes, we all love chips, crackers, cookies, cakes, and candy. But it has it's proper place. As in NOT ALL THE TIME! And yes, this website is about appetizers which can often be used for snacks, but everything has its place and can be fine when moderation is used.

Out of control snacking in our country is evident in the obesity problem found more and more in children and increasingly with adults. All kinds of problems are resulting, such as diabetes and heart disease.

We, as a country, (myself included) are often guilty of buying convenience foods to accomodate our busy lifestyles. Again, great for the food industry, but the habit of eating on the run from packaged, processed food or fast food has a documented, far-reaching and sometimes devasting effect on the consumer.

So, what's the solution? Particularly for the busy Moms and Dads of today? The answer is simple. Limit the amount of processed food (snacks) that you serve and when at all possible, reach down deep and come up with only slightly more time to prepare snacks that are better for your child's well-being and health. It really doesn't take that much extra time.

So, in an effort to make healthy, enjoyable snacks for my family, I put together some of my favorite recipes and do try my hardest to serve them up as often as needed. See what you think. I welcome comments and ideas, just contact me.

Below are a lot of great snack recipes for all kinds of occasions. You can mix and match them, but keep in mind, I tried to make them as healthy and as simple to make as possible. Enjoy your snacking!
