Scary Halloween Cheese Fingers
Kids love these scary Halloween Cheese Fingers. They're easy to make, too. photo courtesy of www.familyfun.com Every year, we go to some friends' house for a Halloween party and to Trick or Treat. I like to bring something fun for the kids and a little bit more on the healthy side. This recipe using cheese sticks fits the bill! What you'll need for Halloween Cheese Fingers: - Mozzarella string cheese - Green bell pepper - Cream cheese Easy as 1-2-3... 1. Wear plastic sandwich bags or plastic gloves to keep the cheese sticks from smudging when you handle them. Use a paring knife (adults only) to cut each string cheese in half. Carve a little shallow area for the fingernail - just below the rounded end of each half of the rounded side of the string cheese. 2. Make joint marks with the paring knife just below the nail and more marks for the knuckle join. You can do this by cutting out little horizontal wedges of the cheese. Take a look at the picture to see what I mean.3. To make the fingernails, simply slice up the green bell pepper into 3/8 inch pieces. Turn the strips over so the skin side is down and trim off any extra pulp. This will make it half as thick. Notice how the tops of the "fingernails" are ragged. Cut your bell pepper pieces so they look like that. Then, stick them in place by "gluing" them with tiny dabs of cream cheese. And, you are not limited by green bell pepper. Try using red or yellow bell pepper. Or, if you want to get really creepy, carve the fingernails out of the skin of an eggplant! Enjoy these fun and scary Halloween Cheese Sticks and have a fun and safe Halloween...
