Halloween Snacks usually mean candy. But there's so much more to Halloween than meets the eye! It started with a long tradition of superstitions, witches and goblins and in our country (USA), it's become the fun and joyful night that every kid looks forward to: Dressing up and eating too much candy.
But what if you are doing more than simply standing as a sentry at the door waiting for the next black draped kiddo or bunny-eared baby to come knocking?
What if you are actually throwing a little Halloween party? What can you serve? What kinds of games can you play between doorbell ringing?
You ask yourself, "does the food all have to be sugary?" No. Definitely not. You can still serve excellent foodthat is both fun, nutritious and good for both kids and adults. Mini sandwiches, pizza, and quesadillas are all good choices that get away from the sugary stuff and will be eaten up quickly at any Halloween party. Below are some other ideas for you.
When passing out Halloween treats at the door, try and get candy out of your head. (Yes, I know that's hard to do... and you don't want to be an "uncool" house to visit!) but here are some non-candy ideas that won't make you the scourge of the neighborhood.
* Coupons from various establishments like a donut shop or an ice cream
store where the parents still have control over what is ordered with the coupon.
* Sugarless gum
* Trail mix
* Corn nuts
* Peanuts
* Small packages of popcorn or pretzels
* How about a packages of sugar-free cocoa?
* Small bags of roasted pumpkin seeds
* Little pre-packaged cheese and crackers
But use your imagination - the above list is just a guide. Have a spooky Halloween!
