Summertime Sangria

Sangria from Easy Appetizer Recipes
Holiday Drinks
A wide variety
to please everybody!

Well, where I live, the sun is shining, it's nice and warm out and we have my son's baseball game to attend tonight. So, I thought I'd treat the parents to a glass or two of Sangria while we watch the boys play their hearts out.

UPDATE! Didn't win the game, but the parents really enjoyed this delicious drink recipe!

It's easy to make, and easier to drink! Tasting this combination of tart red wine and sweet fruit is a memory-in-the-making. Perfect for a warm night and cheering for our hard-playing boys....

It's the kind of drink recipe where you can never go wrong with it - it gets better as you spice it up with your own additions! Just add your favorite fresh or frozen fruits, chill it, and serve.

Takes about 5 minutes to prepare. How easy is that?

Sangria Pitcher from La Tienda

What you'll need for this mixed drink:
- 1 bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja reds, Zinfandel, Shiraz)*
- 1 lemon cut into wedges
- 1 orange cut into wedges
- 2 Tbsp sugar (optional)
- 1 shot of brandy
- 2 cups of ginger ale or club soda**

*In this case, I made it with Shiraz... deeeelish! But any red wine works.
** And I chose Fresca instead of ginger ale.

What to do:
To make this fine Sangria, pour the wine in a pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.

If you'd like to serve this fresh spring drink right away, use chill the red wine and serve over lots of ice. Here's a video to show you how it's all put together.

Additional ideas: sliced strawberries, peaches, handful of fresh blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, a shot or two of gin, brandy or rum, a cup of ginger ale, citrus soda pop or lime juice.

A bit of interesting history about this delicous drink...
From its humble roots in Spain, Sangria has grown to become a popular, refreshing party drink around the world. Every restaurant has its own recipe - typically a mix of wine, brandy and fresh fruits, served over ice. It's one of the most individualistic drinks on the market. Don't just buy a mix at the store - have fun and create your own! Sangria's appeal is all about taking your favorite red wine, your favorite fruits, and experimenting with them.
